Allosaurus Dinosaur

In the kingdom of dinosaurs, who is known as the ‘supermodel’? Who stood out with their elegant physiques? There are always interesting discoveries to be made when we explore the characteristics of various dinosaurs. Today, we’re going to delve into a fascinating topic – which dinosaur had the best body type? In this case, I’m going to go firmly with the Allosaurus, which is the best of the meat-eating dinosaurs. Next, let’s find out why the Allosaurus is known as the ‘super model’ of the dinosaur family.

Allosaurus Dinosaur

In order to discuss the size of Allosaurus, we first need to understand its biological classification and related body measurements. Heterodontosaurus, the bright star of the dinosaur family, belongs to the order Sauropsida, suborder Theropoda, family Heterodontidae, genus Heterodontosaurus. As an adult, Heterodontosaurus was about 9 metres long, while its weight remained light at about 2.8 tonnes. Nevertheless, this weight is not heavy for its large size, but rather highlights its elegance and athleticism.

For a more visual comparison, let’s take a look at the body measurements of Tyrannosaurus Rex, another leader among carnivorous dinosaurs. The Tyrannosaurus Rex typically measured around 12 metres in length, while its average weight could be up to 9 tonnes. Remarkably, the heaviest Tyrannosaurus rex weighed a whopping 14.85 tonnes, far outweighing the heaviest Allosaurus rex, which weighed just 3.5 tonnes. Despite the fact that the difference in average body length between the two was only about three metres, the difference in weight was a staggering three times more.

However, judging by the fossilised skeleton of Tyrannosaurus Rex or the computer-recovered image, it does not appear to be bloated or obese. In contrast, Allosaurus presents a different kind of beauty. From the newly excavated fossil skeleton of Allosaurus, we can clearly see that it was an elegantly built carnivorous dinosaur. Although we know very little about their body colour, we can still imagine how they dominated the dinosaur world during the Late Jurassic period.

Allosaurus has had a relatively long existence in the world of dinosaurs. From its debut 155 million years ago until its demise 135 million years ago, it survived for 20 million years. In contrast, the history of human beings, though long, is much shorter than that of allosaurus. Counting only from the oldest southern ape, the history of human beings is only about 5.5 million years. Therefore, it is easy to see the great vitality shown by this large species of Allosaurus.

In fact, Allosaurus is not only known as the ‘supermodel of the dinosaur world’, but also as one of the earliest dinosaurs. During the Late Jurassic Period, the Allosaurus became nearly invincible with its huge size, sharp teeth and unrivalled speed. It is worth noting that Tyrannosaurus rex appeared some 70 million years after the extinction of Allosaurus, and its overall survival span was far less than that of Allosaurus.
The Latin name Allosaurus, meaning ‘distinctive lizard,’ underscores its unique position in the world of dinosaurs. If dinosaurs did evolve intelligence, then in my opinion, Allosaurus is the most likely candidate. Of course, if that were to happen, then perhaps the title of the book ‘Cretaceous Past’ should be changed to ‘Jurassic Past’.
